Being a city bordered eastwards by the lake and westwards by mountains, Limone is an excellent vacation destination.

Limone is, as it were, a city of flowers, and its lakeside promenade, which stretches from the port to the center of the city, is a wonderful place for walks at sunset.

Plenty of shops can be spotted in Limone. Thus, countless boutiques selling a wide range of goods can be explored on the narrow crammed streets of the city.

Two of the chief attractions of the city refer to the center area, with its specific arcades, and to the lemon tree groves, orange tree and cedar groves.

Between 1863 and 1905, the locality was called Limone San Giovanni. Up to 1940, the city was accessible only by water via Lake Garda, or by following the mountain paths leading to Limone. The construction works at the street to Riva del Garda, which, for that matter, crosses Limone, started in 1932. Limone is, at present, one of the most famous and popular resorts on the shore of Lake Garda.

A discovery made by scientists in 1979 related to the locals of Limone pointed out a local curiosity. More precisely, it was unveiled that a mutant type of apolipoprotein (called ApoA-1 Milano) is present in locals’ blood. People who feature this protein in their bloodstream excel by their longevity due to the fact a higher density type of cholesterol develops in their blood, diminishing the risk of atherosclerosis and cardiovascular diseases.
